Advancing Medical Knowledge

Italy: A Hub for Medical and Dental Education

Italy's Medical and Dental Education

Italy offers robust programs in medicine and dentistry, spanning 6 years, primarily taught in English across various prestigious universities. These programs are highly regarded due to their comprehensive curriculum which combines practical and theoretical knowledge in a world-renowned healthcare context. Universities in Italy accept students based on the IMAT exam and provide instruction in either Italian or English, depending on the student's preference.

Language Requirements

Most medical and dental universities in Italy do not require a proof of language proficiency for admission to their English-taught programs. However, some universities may request a B2 level certificate for programs taught in Italian. Additionally, preparatory language courses are available for students who need to improve their proficiency.

IMAT Examination

The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is mandatory for students wishing to enroll in medical and dental courses in Italy. This test includes sections on Logical Reasoning, General Knowledge, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, comprising 60 questions over a 100-minute session. The IMAT does not set a minimum score threshold, reflecting its competitive nature.

Scoring the IMAT

In the IMAT, points are awarded as follows: 1 point for each correct answer, zero points for unanswered questions, and a deduction of 0.25 points for incorrect answers. The test is available in both English and Italian, and students can choose according to their language proficiency.

Costs and Scholarships

The registration fee for universities generally runs around 200 Euros annually, with tuition fees approximately 2,000 Euros, although actual expenses can vary significantly based on the student's financial situation. Many Turkish students benefit from the lower costs due to exchange rate advantages. Successful scholarship applicants may have up to 90% of their registration fees refunded and receive substantial financial support covering tuition, which can offset living and personal expenses.
